Youth And Government Is Coming Up

Payton Shaw & Rebecca Stanford, Activities' Writers

In November, Youth and Government, also known as YAG, is available to all eighth grade students. The main work for this fun learning experience is done by the high schoolers while the eighth graders observe and take part in a miniature project. For this event, high schoolers and the eighth graders will be going to Jefferson City and staying in a hotel with a teacher. “This experience will be a good life lesson,” says Peyton Koontz, an eighth grader. We will be accompanied by Mrs. Lamb who will be walking the eighth graders back and forth between the capitol and the hotel.

YAG prepares the youth for being a responsible leader. It prepares us to be a leader in the American Democratic Government by providing guidance, training, and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy. This model government program is a student-driven simulation of state government and political activities, which involves over 1000 Missouri youth in grades 8-12. “It’s so exciting!” says Natalie.
