Janet’s Recital – March 10-11

Natalie Landis, Writer

Every year at the MMA around the second weekend in March, Janet’s Dance Studio has a dance recital. The teachers, led by Mrs. Janet, come up with a theme for the staff to dance with for the opening dance. Then every dance in the recital is loosely connected to the theme. This year’s theme is Baby I’m a Classic. In addition, each year the teachers offer shirts and DVD’s for the dancers to have so they can always look back at all the years they have danced.  Every dancer receives a lanyard when they are registered as a member of Janet’s Dance Studio, and after the last recital of that year the staff gives out a pin for that year’s theme. The students put that pin on their lanyard, creating a collection over all their years. There is also a scholarship for Katy Flynn that did both gymnastics and dance so every dancer that does both can try out for it. All they have to do is write a paper about something the teachers give them. Then at the end of the year the teachers tell the dancer who got the scholarship then they put their name on the board then they hang it up in the studio. The dancers are incredibly proud of all their hard work, and look forward to their performance!
