What did you think of the Youth and Government Convention?
Avery:
YAG was an amazing experience. YAG featured 8th to 12th graders. We got to stay in a hotel for 2 nights. We got the chance to meet new people, explore the capital, and learn about youth and government. My favorite part about YAG was the Yaggster, making laws, and walking around the capital. I also enjoyed voting for different positions featuring government officials at the meetings right before we left. We spent a lot of time in Carnegie Hall. I sat at a table with Caroline, Elaine, Lauren, Scarlet, Allison, Audrey, Natalie and a guy named Ethan, we met. YAG is an amazing opportunity to have fun with friends, learn more about the power of government, and to get to know people who are from different places. When you are eligible to go to YAG, I highly recommend coming. You will definitely enjoy it!
Caroline:
YAG was so much fun! The first day we met at the YMCA, here in town. We loaded our luggage onto the bus, and went to our hotel. They gave us some time to get settled into our hotel room, and unpack our bags. After everyone met downstairs. We walked over to the capital, and got some time to look around. Then we came back to the hotel and started learning about Bills. The second day we were making our own Bills and finding pro’s and con’s for our arguments. That night there was a party called the Yaggster. It was so much fun there was a dance floor, jousting, and an area to get drinks. The last day we did debates with small groups. Then the time came to leave. YAG was so much fun and I’m excited to go next year. If you can, I highly recommend going.
